Orchestras and other classical organizations are preparing for this year’s Super Bowl, scheduled for Sunday, February 2 between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks. At Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will not be seen but will be heard: NJSO musicians recently recorded a version of “The Star Spangled Banner” that will be broadcast in the stadium as soprano Renée Fleming sings in person. The nonprofit organization that produces the public art project Sing For Hope Pianos will display two pianos at the stadium on game day, newly painted by former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, his wife, Brenda, and daughter Jesse Jo, as well as by high school students from Sing For Hope’s educational programs. And, as reported recently at the Hub, the Colorado Symphony has shifted its concert of Dvorák and Tchaikovsky that day from 2:30 p.m. to noon, to avoid a conflict with the Super Bowl start time, and has halved ticket prices for those who come to the concert wearing colors of the hometown team, the Broncos.
