“The TSO announced Thursday its 2014/15 season Thursday at Roy Thomson Hall, which will include a season-long celebration of the piano and its first tour of Europe since 2000,” reports Trish Crawford in Thursday’s (1/23) Toronto Star. “The second decade of music director Peter Oundjian’s leadership will continue to include annual Mozart and New Creation Festivals, Messiah performances at Christmas and a repeat of this year’s Chinese New Year concert. The opening gala on Sept. 18 will feature violinist Joshua Bell. Pianist Emanuel Ax is curator of the Piano Extravaganza, a series of eight ticketed concerts and also free events in and around the hall. Ax will preside over master classes at the Royal Conservatory; Pianopalooza, a four-hour marathon at Koerner Hall and lunchtime concerts in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre at the Four Seasons Centre. This is a joint project with the Royal Conservatory.” Conductor Laureate Sir Andrew Davis “will celebrate his 40 years on the TSO podium from May 22 to 29, 2015, in three programs showcasing work he has conducted over the years.… In August 2014, the TSO will perform at the Toronto Summer Music Festival before heading out to festivals in Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Iceland.”
