In Florida, Artis-Naples—formerly known as the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts—has announced a new three-year agreement with the musicians of the Naples Philharmonic. The agreement was ratified five months before the current agreement was due to expire, and includes salary increases of 2, 2-1/4, and 2-1/2 percent, with base salary rising to $52,260 in year three of the contract. It is the first new contract in five years for the orchestra; the 2008 contract was extended with three years of wage freezes, followed by a modest increase in 2013. Marlena Chow, co-chair of the Naples Philharmonic Negotiations Committee, said, “We felt that both sides were working toward the same goal: an agreement that respects and values the musicians’ contributions and sets the stage for future growth with our new music director,” Andrey Boreyko. Artis-Naples CEO and President Kathleen van Bergen said, “Our open dialogue was driven by shared commitments to artistic quality, community engagement and fiscal responsibility. The modest wage increases indicate growth and recognize the success of our orchestra while signaling the institution’s commitment to a strong financial position, artistic quality and a deeper relationship with our community.”
