The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra in Michigan has received a $50,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan to support a three-year project called “A Taste of Music: The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Goes to Market.” The grant will support twelve free “Taste of Music” outdoor concerts at farmers markets in Washtenaw, Western Wayne, Livingston, and Oakland counties, where in addition to small-ensemble performances there will be an instrument petting zoo for children. Up to 700 free concert tickets will also be offered to market customers who are SNAP Bridge Card users and beneficiaries of the Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks Program. “We are not just a Saturday-night mainstage orchestra,” said Ann Arbor Symphony Board President Bob Gates. “We’re in the schools, retirement centers, daycare centers, and libraries—and now in farmers’ markets.”
