Thursday’s (2/7) Daily News (Genesee, Wyoming, and Orleans counties, New York) reports that the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2014-15 season will open with a September 13 performance by soprano Renée Fleming, “returning to the Kleinhans stage for the first time in eight years [followed by] a two-week Rachmaninoff Festival including ‘The Sea and the Seagull,’ ‘The Bells,’ and ‘The Isle of the Dead.’ … This season features collaborations with area arts organizations. The Irish Classical Theatre and LehrerDance will join the BPO for a semi-staged performance of Moliere’s ‘Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme (The Would-Be Gentleman).’ The orchestra will be performing the incidental music composed by Richard Strauss. The BPO will explore the works of composer Charles Ives with ‘Charles Ives: An American Maverick’ concerts, which includes a multimedia presentation. The Burchfield Penney Art Gallery, the Buffalo and Erie County Libraries, and the University at Buffalo are creating events around this concert exploring the work and legacy of Ives.” Among symphonies planned for 2014-15 are Mahler’s First and Beethoven’s Ninth, with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus. The BPO’s pops series “will kick off on Sept. 27 with the debut of ‘Glee’ star Matthew Morrison. Also making appearances will be Ben Vereen and Megan Hilty.”
