The Cliburn organization has announced that it will host a free concert at Sundance Square Plaza in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, on February 27, marking one year since the death of its founder, pianist Van Cliburn, who died in February 2013. The memorial concert, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., will also be streamed live at cliburn.org. The concert will feature recitals by eight prior Cliburn medalists from years ranging from 1985 to 2005: José Feghali, Yakov Kasman, Alexander Kobrin, Alexey Koltakov, Steven Lin, Simone Pedroni, Maxim Philippov, and Antonio Pompa-Baldi. Sundance Square, where the concert will take place, is a 35-block entertainment district in Fort Worth; Sundance Square Plaza, which opened in November 2013, is a one-acre outdoor plaza with covered seating. “Van Cliburn believed strongly in the encouragement of young talent,” said Cliburn President and CEO Jacques Marquis in a statement. “He also had a lifelong commitment to sharing music with as many people as possible, so the partnership with Sundance Square to hold this event in their magnificent, public space is perfect.”
