In a news story accompanying a positive review of a concert by the San Juan Symphony in Durango, Colorado, Judith Reynolds reports in Monday’s (2/17) Durango Herald, “Music director and conductor Arthur Post again seamlessly led the orchestra through another varied and entertaining program, but few in the audience knew what was happening onstage was not the news of the day. After the program, Post shared the news with some of the symphony’s top patrons: Next season will be his last in the Southwest.… He cited growing family and professional demands as the chief reasons for handing off the baton after 13 years on the dais.… The San Juan Symphony is not Post’s full-time job. He also is music director of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra in Ontario, Canada, and frequently contributes his time to numerous other symphonies and projects.… His shoes will be tough to fill, and his legacy as one of the most influential people in the symphony’s history is secure.… Executive Director Kathy Myrick said the San Juan Symphony board of directors will meet later this month to discuss the search for a new music director.”
