ANDREA KALYN has been named dean of Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Ohio’s Oberlin College. She succeeds DAVID H. STULL, who held the post from 2004 to 2013. Since 2005 Kalyn had been serving as the conservatory’s associate dean, and subsequent to Stull’s departure, as interim dean. She led a team of Oberlin faculty members and administrators in establishing a Creativity & Leadership Project fostering student entrepreneurship, and she was instrumental in securing more than $2 million in startup funds for a companion business-accelerator program called LaunchU, which debuted in 2013. Prior to Oberlin, Kalyn held teaching positions at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts; at Salem College and Wake Forest University, both in Winston-Salem, N.C.; at the University of Western Ontario; and at the University of Rochester. She holds a diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, a bachelor’s degree in music as well as a master’s degree in musicology from the University of Western Ontario, and a PhD in musicology from the Eastman School of Music.
