In Saturday’s (2/22) Sarasota Herald Tribune (Florida), Susan Rife writes that Anu Tali, “hired last summer as the Sarasota Orchestra’s fifth music director in its 65-year history, has taken charge. Although her first season here is an abbreviated one … audiences already have responded—rave reviews for the orchestra’s November program of Eller, Rachmaninoff and Dvorák led to a full sell-out of tickets for four concerts this weekend.” Tali, a native of Estonia, “arrived this week in time for a whirlwind of meetings, including a board retreat and planning sessions for next season.… ‘I am somehow much more into the American way of orchestra leading now,’ she says. ‘I like being informed, and being part of what people do, and here, I am very much involved, literally in everything.’ … Concertmaster Dan Jordan … [says], ‘It’s been sort of a whirlwind this year because there’s only three visits,’ he says. ‘I think it leaves you wanting more and more. The moments we’ve had with her have been very exciting. The community’s energized and the musicians are energized.’ … Next year Tali will be in residence for most of the season and will conduct five of the seven Masterworks programs.”
