“Eureka Symphony Board President Pam Cahill announced on Friday that the orchestra has hired its first executive director, Jane Hill, who assumed the part-time position on March 1,” states a report in Sunday’s (3/16) Times-Standard (Eureka, California). “ ‘We really needed someone to help us clarify operations and communications,’ Cahill said in a press release. ‘Jane Hill recently led the update of our strategic plan. That experience convinced us that she would be the perfect executive director.’ Hill, who retired as executive director of the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007, has since operated artSMART, a non-profit consulting business. Her past arts leadership included co-founding Dell’Arte in the early 1970s, working as executive director of Opera Omaha in Nebraska, serving for nine months as interim executive director of the Stockton Symphony, working with Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson on his ‘For Arts’ Sake’ initiative, and pulling a six-week stint as the Nebraska Arts Council’s consultant-in-residence, traveling across the state to do non-profit board training, according to the release. ‘I’ve considered Humboldt County my home since 1971 and am delighted to be back,’ Hill said in the release.… Hill’s other local clients include Dell’Arte and the Arcata Playhouse.”
