In Sunday’s (3/16) Columbus Dispatch (Ohio), Nancy Gibson reports, “With Jean-Marie Zeitouni to move on in August after four years as [Columbus Symphony Orchestra] music director, all but one of the [2014-15 season’s] 12 ‘Masterworks’ programs—the core of the symphony schedule—will be led by guest conductors. Zeitouni will return to direct a set of concerts in April 2015. None of the 11 guest conductors is a candidate to replace Zeitouni, said Mike Stefiuk, director of artistic planning—who programmed the new season.” The season will include a three-program “American Roots Festival” featuring music by Dvorák, Gershwin, Ellington, and others; a Baroque Festival led by Nicholas McGegan; a September 25 world premiere of Twisted, “Crystal Manich’s tale of one man’s journey through life and love, featuring more than 200 artists from Columbus Symphony and Chorus, BalletMet Columbus and Opera Columbus”; and works by John Corigliano, Mason Bates, and Einojuhani Rautavaara. Also planned are five pops concerts. The orchestra is in the middle of an ongoing search for a music director.
