“Michael Henson, the CEO and president of the Minnesota Orchestra who was the face of management during the 16-month-lockout of musicians, will leave the organization Aug. 31,” reports Mark Reilly in Friday’s (3/21) Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. “Minnesota Public Radio has a report on the move, which was described as a ‘mutual agreement’ by Henson and the orchestra board. His role in the lockout made Henson a controversial figure amongst musicians, audience members and, probably more important, donors. When the lockout ended, Chairman Jon Campbell stepped down, but the board said then that Henson would stay. But the focus stayed on Henson, especially when Osmo Vanska, the orchestra’s artistic director and conductor who left during the lockout, said Henson should leave ‘for any healing to begin.’ It’s still not clear if Vanska will return.”
