In Monday’s (3/24) News-Press (Naples, Florida), Charles Runnells reports, “New conductor Andrey Boreyko brings a diverse selection of music to the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra’s next season, including Tchaikovsky’s folk-music foray ‘Capriccio Italien’ and a commissioned piece by jazz pianist and composer Uri Caine. The orchestra announced its 2014-2015 season today. Boreyko has conducted several concerts this season as the orchestra’s music director designate, but this will be his first official season as music director. ‘What’s most important to me is that the music speaks to the audience,’ Boreyko said in a press release. ‘I always try to create something new from something old, so alongside great classics, the orchestra and I aim to provide a few surprises.…’ The season includes some of the top stars in the classical-music world, including pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and violinists Gidon Kremer, James Ehnes and Naples-born Chad Hoopes. Principal pops conductor Jack Everly will lead the orchestra in a concert of ‘50s music, and they’ll also provide the soundtrack to a restored version of the movie musical ‘Singin’ in the Rain.’ And three traveling orchestras will also visit Artis—Naples: The Mariinsky Orchestra; acclaimed conductor Keith Lockhart and the BBC Concert Orchestra; and violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter with the Mutter Virtuosi.”
