In Tuesday’s (3/25) Kalamazoo Gazette (Mich.), John Liberty reports, “Peter Gistelinck has been named the new Executive Director of the Kalamazoo Symphony, the organization announced today. Gistelinck [is] Executive Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, a post he’s held since 2006. He will take over the KSO job, vacated by Jennifer Barlament when she became the General Manager of the Cleveland Orchestra in the fall, on May 19. ‘I am absolutely honored to have been chosen as the next leader of the well-renowned Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra,’ Gistelinck said. ‘This orchestra, because of its diverse programming, great artistic leadership, nationally praised educational programs and great community impact, has it all to become one of the leading national orchestras.’ ” Prior to his Philadelphia post Gistelinck was co-artistic director and director of sales, marketing and special projects at the Brussels Philharmonic and Flemish Radio Choir in his native Belgium. He had earlier served as general manager of business affairs for the Paris-based Baroque orchestra Le Concert Spirituel. Gistelinck received his academic training in Ghent, Belgium, earning a degree in music theory, history, composition, orchestrating and arranging from the Royal Music Conservatory and a master’s in musicology from the State University.
