The Jackson (Tenn.) Symphony has announced the appointment of PETER SHANNON as music director and conductor, effective July 1, 2014. Since 2007 Shannon has served as artistic director and conductor of the Savannah (Ga.) Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, a post he will retain. Trained at University College Dublin in his native Ireland and at the Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik in Weimar, Germany, Shannon has guest conducted widely in Germany, as well as in numerous other European countries and in Ireland. Prior to his appointment in Savannah he spent a decade conducting the Collegium Musicum at Leipzig University in Germany.
