A Wednesday (4/16) editorial in the Janesville Gazette (Wisconsin) notes that the former Beloit Janesville Symphony “has recognized the need to adapt to changing times to appeal to wider audiences. New Executive Director Michael Krueger … wants the newly named Rock River Philharmonic to ‘explore artistic boundaries.’ … Using the Rock River to shed the traditional two-city designation allows the organization to expand its outreach. Now, the orchestra might find welcoming audiences up and down the river—even across the border in Illinois…. Krueger has energized the 12-member board with working committees so he and [marketing/outreach director Britney] McKay can focus on their jobs…. The philharmonic will begin its new season in January with a diverse three-part performance series of classical and pops concerts to be announced this fall.… The former Beloit Janesville Symphony could not continue on its traditional path. The recession took a toll, and the symphony had yet to recover. It canceled some performances…. The Rock River Philharmonic’s … changes are based on making the group more relevant to more people.… All this could create a harmonic match of music and performances to bigger audiences.”
