JINDONG CAI has been named music director of the El Camino Youth Symphony (Palo Alto, Calif.) and conductor of its Senior Symphony Orchestra, effective in the 2014-15 season. He is music director of California’s Stanford Symphony Orchestra and holds the Gretchen B. Kimball Director of Orchestral Studies Chair at Stanford University. Previous faculty affiliations include Louisiana State University, the University of Arizona, and the University of California-Berkeley. Cai has held assistant conducting positions with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops and with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. A native of Beijing, he received musical education in China and came to the U.S. for graduate studies at New England Conservatory and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Cai received training in conducting at Tanglewood Music Center and Aspen Music Festival and School.
