The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has announced that MATTHEW ERNST has been named to the Rawson Principal Trumpet Chair, beginning with the 2014-15 season. He will also serve as principal trumpet for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. Ernst performed with the CSO as principal trumpet last month during its inaugural collaboration with the MusicNOW Festival. He has served as acting principal trumpet with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and for five years was associate principal trumpet in the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also held teaching posts at the University of Virginia, the University of New Orleans, and the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. Ernst earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan, and holds master’s degrees in both trumpet performance and conducting from Southern Methodist University. He received further training at Tanglewood Music Center, the Pacific Music Festival, and Brevard Music Center.
