The Montana Association of Symphony Orchestras has named Jane Van Dyk Volunteer of the Year. Van Dyk is a longtime member of the board of directors of the Billings Symphony Orchestra and Chorale and of the board of directors of the League of American Orchestras’ Volunteer Council, where she was president in 2009-10. She joined the Billings Symphony’s board of directors in 1985, served as president in 1995-96 and 1996-97, and chaired committees including the nominating and finance committees. At the Billings-based Yellowstone Chamber Players, she served for five years on the board of directors, including a year as president. The Montana Association of Symphony Orchestras (MASO) is a statewide coalition of seven Montana-based orchestras: Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, Glacier, Helena, and Missoula. MASO’s mission is to promote, encourage, and assist in the maintenance and development of quality musical programs throughout the state of Montana. “I feel so honored and humbled by this recognition from MASO,” said Van Dyk. “Music—live, symphonic music especially—has always been my first love. None of the work I’ve done for orchestras ever seemed like work. It’s always been a labor of love,” said Van Dyk.
