Artistic: San Francisco Symphony

The San Francisco Symphony has announced the appointment of EDWIN OUTWATER as director of summer concerts. In this newly created position he will assume creative leadership of the SFS’s annual Summer and the Symphony concerts for two years. He will conduct ten performances during the 2014 series, which begins July 5. Outwater is currently in his seventh season as music director of Ontario’s Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and regularly conducts the Chicago and New World symphonies. From 2001 to 2006 he was resident conductor of the San Francisco Symphony, where he also served as music director of the SFS Youth Orchestra. Outwater’s previous posts include resident conductor, Florida Philharmonic; associate conductor, Festival-Institute at Round Top (Tex.); and assistant conductor, Tulsa (Okla.) Philharmonic.
