The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has announced two additions to its viola section, effective May 19, 2014.

WEI-TING KUO is a native of Taiwan with a bachelor’s degree from National Taiwan Normal University, a master’s degree from Mannes College the New School for Music in New York City, and an artist diploma from The Colburn School in Los Angeles. He participated in the Taos Music Festival in 2008, Ravinia Festival in 2009, and Switzerland’s Verbier Festival Academy in 2010. Kuo was a prize winner at the 2009 Tokyo International Viola Competition and a finalist in the 2008 Primrose International Viola Competition.

DANNY LAI was most recently a section violist in the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and previously held the posts of assistant principal viola and principal viola in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He has played in the Aspen and Pacific music festivals, the Lucerne Festival Academy, and the YouTube Symphony. Lai is a co-founder of Music Heals Us, an organization dedicated to community building, cultural dialogue, and spiritual healing through music in venues around the world. He attended Northwestern University, majoring in music and economics.
