DAVID HARMAN will step down as conductor and music director of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra at the conclusion of its final concert of the season on May 11. He celebrated his 20th anniversary with the youth orchestra last season with a commissioned work written in his honor by Rochester native Carson Cooman; the RPYO premiered the work, Lilac Jubilee, at Carnegie Hall in 2013 and gave the first Rochester performance at Kodak Hall during its annual side-by-side concert with the Rochester Philharmonic. Harman will continue as music director of the Penfield (N.Y.) Symphony and as professor of music/director of orchestral activities at the University of Rochester’s River Campus.
