The Lafayette Symphony in Indiana is set to perform James Barry’s short orchestral work Snapshot on its May 10 “Paint the Town” concert, led by Music Director Nick Palmer and featuring images above the stage by winners of a local photography contest. The program also includes Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and La Mer, with the participation of visual artist Rena Brouwer, who will paint live onstage during the performance. Lafayette marks the sixteenth performance of Barry’s Snapshot since its premiere in 2003. Most recently the Owensboro Symphony in Kentucky performed the work on its April 12 “Visions” concert, also featuring photography by local competition winners. A recording of the Owensboro Symphony’s April performance of Snapshot, led by Nick Palmer, can be found here. Composer James Barry also serves as program coordinator for leadership training and recruitment at the League of American Orchestras.
