“This is one audition that is no cattle call. Instead, 10 pre-selected canines will hit their marks and bark their barks in an unusual audition Tuesday for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra,” writes Michael Fuoco in Friday’s (5/9) Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The goal of the audition at Heinz Hall is to find the four canines who will best use their vocal instruments to perform with the symphony at the 55th annual Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival June 9. The 10 dogs will audition by performing a segment of Leopold Mozart’s ‘Hunting Horn Symphony,’ barking on command in collaboration with four horn soloists. The audition judges include resident conductor Fawzi Haimor; horn section representative Ronald Schneider; Animal Rescue League executive director Dan Rossi; and Kristen Lane, director of marketing and public relations for the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society. Dogs and their handlers include: Jetty, Bethany Karger; Grizzly, Anthony Greco; Anuka, Donna Bodnar; Sonny, Lucy McCloskey; Oscar, Susan McChesney; Leo, Martha King; Jermiah, Barbara Chaley; Otis, Kim Briglia; Sergeant Preston, Francine Schiffman Lumi; Bailey, Debra Cutshall.”
