Florida’s Atlantic Classical Orchestra has commissioned two premieres for its 25th anniversary in 2015. Artistic Director Stewart Robertson will lead the first 2014-15 ACO commission, by Patrick Harlin, on a March program that also includes works by Schubert, Beethoven, and Richard Strauss. In April, the orchestra will perform Zhou Tian’s violin concerto, featuring a guest artist to be announced later; also on that program will be Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides” Overture, Alexander McKenzie’s Benedictus, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. The ACO’s Commission Project was launched in 2013 as the result of a $100,000 grant from the Rappaport Foundation; through the project the orchestra has already performed commissioned works by David Conte, Garth Neustadter, and Jeffrey Parola. The Atlantic Classical Orchestra, based in Fort Pierce, Florida, performs its season from January to April at venues in Vero Beach, Stuart, and Palm Beach Gardens.
