The American Composers Orchestra, based in New York, has announced details of its 2014-15 season under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel and Music Director George Manahan. The season will include “Orchestra Underground” concerts of new music in November and February at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, featuring experimental rock guitarist Ian Williams’s first orchestral piece; draKOOL, a Dracula-themed piece by Daniel Schnyder; and Carman Moore’s Tata Madiba, honoring the late Nelson Mandela. Featured composers in 2014-15 will include Shara Worden, Meredith Monk, Theo Bleckmann, A.J. McCaffrey, Loren Loiacono, and Sarah Kirkland Snider. Also in 2014-15 will be the 24th annual Underwood New Music Readings at New York’s DiMenna Center for Classical Music, held over two days in May 2015; and the third year of the Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute, held in August 2015 at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music in Los Angeles. Orchestras participating in the 2014-15 EarShot program—held by the ACO in collaboration with the American Composers Forum, League of American Orchestras, and New Music USA—will be announced at a later date.
