“This year’s winners of the Nobel Peace Prize and the Nobel Prize in Literature won’t be announced for months. But the classical music world plans far in advance, so we now know who will be conducting the 10th annual Nobel Prize Concert, an event convened each year in Stockholm for the laureates and members of the Swedish Royal Family,” writes Jeremy Eichler in Tuesday’s (5/20) Boston Globe. “On Dec. 8, Andris Nelsons, by then the music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, will lead an orchestra and two guest soloists: soprano Kristine Opolais, his wife, and trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger. Beethoven and Tchaikovsky are on the bill, and so is Rolf Martinsson’s Trumpet Concerto titled ‘Bridge.’ The last work will also appear on Nelsons’s Tanglewood program with the BSO on July 19, so curious listeners can beat the Swedish Royal Family—and all those laureates—to the punch.”
