An unsigned report on Wednesday (5/21) in Fort Myers Florida Weekly states, “After a season that featured the auditions of five guest conductors, the Southwest Florida Symphony has named its new music director and artistic leader, internationally acclaimed Maestro Nir Kabaretti. He is the fifth conductor in the Southwest Florida Symphony’s 54-year history.… ‘The decision was a difficult one,’ says Southwest Florida Symphony CEO John Hudson. ‘Being faced with choosing the best maestro for this job when all five were so qualified and enthusiastic was a good problem to have, but it made the decision tough.’ Due to commitments Kabaretti made prior to being selected, his first concerts with the Southwest Florida Symphony will happen at Masterworks II on Jan. 17, 2015.” Kabaretti “comes to Southwest Florida from the Santa Barbara Symphony in California where he also serves as music and artistic director.” Kabaretti has guest conducted extensively in Europe, Israel, Japan, and South America, and has “worked with some of the world’s most sought-after musicians, such as Lang Lang, Placido Domingo, Itzhak Perlman and Hélène Grimaud.”
