The New York Youth Symphony’s 2014-15 season will encompass three orchestra performances at Carnegie Hall, as well as jazz performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and chamber music performances at Symphony Space and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. Music Director Joshua Gersen will lead the orchestra in music including Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with pianist Conrad Tao as soloist, Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with violinist Elena Urioste, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony No. 9 with the New York Choral Society. The orchestra will also perform three free programs at the United Palace Theater in upper Manhattan, a first for the orchestra. New compositions by Scott Ninmer, Erica Sequine, and Marcus Wilcher created through NYSS’s First Music Commissioning Program will be performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center by members of NYSS’s orchestra, chamber music, and jazz programs. A new work by Edward Hamel will receive its world premiere at Weill Recital Hall in a side-by-side performance with violist Paul Neubauer and musicians in the chamber music program.
