“The Yakima Symphony Orchestra’s Board of Directors and its Music Director, Lawrence Golan, have agreed on a 7-year contract extension keeping Golan with the symphony through June 2022,” states an unsigned report at KIMATV.com (Washington State). “Golan has been Music Director of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra since July 2010. He is also Director of Orchestral Studies and Professor of Conducting at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music as well as Music Director of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra. This month the York Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania announced it had hired Golan as its new Music Director beginning with the 2014-15 season. Although holding multiple music directorships across the country will be a challenge, Golan is confident that the schedules of the orchestras will complement one another well and that his commitment to the Yakima Symphony Orchestra will not diminish in any way. ‘Things are going very well with the orchestra right now and they continue to move in the right direction,’ ” Golan said. “The Yakima Symphony has had only two Music Directors in its 43-year history. Founding Music Director Brooke Creswell retired in 2010.”
