“The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra has named Mark Wahlert as its new executive director. He is expected to begin around Aug. 1,” writes Megan Gloss in Friday’s (5/30) Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, Iowa). “Wahlert comes to the DSO with nearly 25 years of experience working in the arts. Since 2010, he has served as the executive director of the Dubuque Museum of Art. Previously, he worked for the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., and the Minnesota Orchestra in Minneapolis. ‘I’m excited to be joining a thriving and stable arts organization in our community and am very excited to lead with William Intriligator, whom I think the world of,’ Wahlert said. ‘It was a difficult decision and is a little heartbreaking to be leaving the Dubuque Museum of Art. It’s been like a home to me. But it’s an exciting opportunity and one I just couldn’t turn down.’ Wahlert serves on the Art On The River committee and is an emeritus board member and past vice president of the Dubuque County Fine Arts Society. He has previously served as commissioner and chair for the City of Dubuque’s Arts & Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission.”
