In Monday’s (6/2) Fayetteville Observer (North Carolina), Sarah Campbell writes, “Plans are underway to launch a Youth Music Institute set to benefit students throughout Cumberland County. The institute, a project of the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, will offer summer camps in strings and brass, a youth orchestra and a strings mentoring program. Fayetteville Symphony musicians have been mentoring select high school orchestra programs, but under the institute their work will be expanded to all public high schools in the county.… The institute will be housed at Fayetteville Academy…. The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra received financial support for the institute from the Community Grant program of the Cumberland Community Foundation [to assist] with the start-up costs.… Beth Keeney, chairwoman of the Cumberland County Foundation’s Community Impact Committee, said in a press release, ‘When the arts thrive, communities thrive, and the opportunity for young musicians to play alongside, and receive mentorship from, professional musicians allows the entire arts community to grow.’ ”
