“The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has recently bucked a national trend and experienced its third straight year of subscription growth for a season,” writes Eric Lacy at Tuesday’s (6/3) MLive.com (Michigan). “Subscription levels—the number of subscription units sold—rose across all five product lines and climbed by 24.7 percent since the 2011-12 season, according to a DSO press release. The DSO’s five product lines: classical, pops, jazz, family and neighborhood. These increases, according to the [orchestra’s] press release, ‘were achieved without any price increases whatsoever.’ Philanthropic efforts have helped the DSO stay viable in Metro Detroit, including a 2012 fundraiser headlined by Kid Rock that raised over $1 million. The DSO classical season attendance of 400,000 (reported at its 2013 annual meeting) for Orchestra Hall, the sold-out neighborhood concert series performances and the ‘Live from Orchestra Hall’ HD webcasts also set a notable record.”
