In Massachusetts, the South Coast Chamber Music Society has merged with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, to form the South Coast Chamber Music Series. The merger officially takes place in July. Musicians of the SCCMS will perform in the series, and NBSO musicians will be added to the roster to expand program offerings. A free public reception and informal concert celebrating the merger is being held on June 20 at Grace Episcopal Church in New Bedford. The concert will feature chamber music by Haydn, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Debussy, Dohnanyi, and Puccini, with SCCMS and NBSO musicians performing together for the first time. The new organization’s co-artistic directors are SCCMS pianist Janice Weber and NBSO concertmaster Jesse Holstein. Further details about the 2014-15 season are expected to be announced later this summer.
