The National Philharmonic, resident ensemble of the Music Center at Strathmore (North Bethesda, Md.) and Philharmonic Music Director Piotr Gajewski have announced the appointment of COLIN SORGI as concertmaster. Since making his professional solo debut in 2012 at Aspen Music Festival and School, Sorgi has performed at Carnegie Hall, Washington’s John F. Kennedy Center, the Chicago Cultural Center, and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada. He was violinist in the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble and participated in Switzerland’s Lucerne Festival Academy. Sorgi has worked extensively with OrchKids, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s El Sistema-inspired after-school music education program, and is the founder and artistic director of SONAR, a Baltimore-based new-music ensemble. A native of San Antonio, Tex., he holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University and from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.
