Classical Movements, a touring and concert-planning company based in Alexandria, Virginia, has been named one of Business Committee for the Arts’ ten Best Businesses Partnering with the Arts in America for 2014. The awards—known as the BCA 10—are given annually by the nonprofit American for the Arts group to U.S. companies for their commitment to the arts through grants, local partnerships, volunteer programs, matching gifts, sponsorships, and board membership. The award cited Classical Movements’ furthering of orchestral music through a commissioning program that has underwritten two new works for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The first commission is a piece for the BSO and children in the BSO’s OrchKids free music-education program, and the second is a commission for ten composers to write ten encores for the BSO’s 100th anniversary in 2016. Among the other nine organizations receiving 2014 BCA honors are Hallmark Cards (Kansas City, MO), AC Entertainment (Knoxville, TN), and Milliken & Company (Spartanburg, SC). The award winners will be honored at an event on October 1, 2014 at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City.
