The California Symphony (Walnut Creek, Calif.) has selected DAN VISCONTI as its eighth Young American Composer in Residence. During his residency (2014-17) he will work with the orchestra and Music Director Donato Cabrera to create, rehearse, premiere, and record three major orchestral compositions, one each season. The recipient of numerous honors including the Rome Prize and awards from ASCAP, BMI, and the Naumburg Foundation, Visconti has been commissioned by such organizations as the American Composers Orchestra, the Albany (N.Y.) and Annapolis symphonies, the Minnesota Orchestra, the New York Youth Symphony, and the Jupiter and Kronos quartets. He has also authored two articles for Symphony magazine: “Sonic Circuits” (on film and video-game music in the concert hall) and “First Notes” (on programs for discovering and mentoring young composers).
