“The Brooklyn Museum is putting out an open call to artists to help invigorate the museum—but surprisingly, not visual artists,” writes Stephanie Simon on Monday (6/30) at the website of NYC television station NY1. “ ‘We have a lot of people that love to come here and just sit in the plaza and stare at the fountain,’ … said Public Programs Director Elizabeth Callihan.… ‘We’re inviting musicians of all different genres, really any kind of music that’s inspired by this fountain, to submit a score, create a score for the fountain and submit it to us.… This fountain is already a favorite for people in the neighborhood.’ … When asked what kind of music she heard when she looked at the fountain, one young girl said, ‘…drums and a violin.’ … The general public is then invited to come together on August 14 to hear the final compositions performed live in front of the fountain, for free.” Submissions are accepted through the end of the July by emailing a link via soundcloud or yousendit to adult.programs@brooklynmuseum.org with the subject line “Score the Fountain.” A YouTube video about the project can be found here.
