In Monday’s (7/7) Naples Daily News (Florida; subscription required), Harriet Howard Heithaus reports on the recently announced 2014-15 season of Artis-Naples, which presents concerts by the Naples Philharmonic, Opera Naples, and guest artists, in addition to offering exhibits at the Baker Museum. “Classical music stars announced Monday include, in his Jan. 9-10 debut appearance here, Gidon Kremer, a Latvian-born violinist…. If there are headlines to the season, there is also a major subtext of collaboration…. [Incoming Naples Philharmonic Music Director Andrey] Boreyko has tied several concerts to exhibitions in the Baker Museum: a March program ‘Heroes and Masters,’ featuring the Beethoven Violin Concerto, with guest artist James Ehnes, and Richard Strauss’ ‘Don Quixote’ March 5 to 7.… A program based on music featured in film [will] complement the Naples International Film Nov. 7 and 8. Score music from the 2002 film ‘The Pianist’; Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, featured in ‘Shine’ (1996); and the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, featured in ‘Death in Venice’ (1971)…. ‘Psycho,’ Oct. 31 … digitally remastered, [will be screened] with live music from the Naples Philharmonic.” Visiting 2014-15 performers include the Miami City Ballet, violinist Itzhak Perlman, and Tony Award-winning soprano Audra McDonald.
