In Thursday’s (7/10) Albany Business Review (New York), Megan Rogers writes, “The Saratoga Performing Arts Center welcomes the world’s largest ballet company this summer, one indicator president Marcia White uses to illustrate how the venue is building its audience for classical arts.… The Bolshoi Ballet and Orchestra, the renowned Russian ballet company, performs at SPAC July 29 through Aug. 1 in one of three stops in its United States tour. The show is bringing national attention to SPAC, which now can call itself an international venue, president and executive director Marcia White says.… The performing arts center attracts about 360,000 visitors annually and broke even in 2013 for the ninth consecutive year. In recent years, the center has focused on growing its younger audience. It offers pre-events to many performances, film nights with orchestras playing the score to classics like the Wizard of Oz or Fantasia, and Cirque de la Symphonie, a circus performance alongside … the Philadelphia Orchestra. Also this summer, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center welcomes the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Both are part of the summer residency program.”
