BETSY COOK WEBER has been appointed director of the Houston Symphony Chorus, effective September 1. She succeeds the retiring CHARLES HAUSMANN, who has been named chorus director emeritus after leading the orchestra’s vocal ensemble for 28 years. Weber is professor of music and director of choral studies at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, as well as an active choral clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor. During the 1990s she served as assistant director, and subsequently associate director, of the Houston Symphony Chorus. Before assuming her University of Houston post she taught music in the public schools. Weber holds degrees from the University North Texas, Westminster Choir College (Princeton, N.J.), and the University of Houston.
