“The Meyerson Symphony Center, home to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, turns 25 in September. To get the yearlong, silver anniversary party started, the DSO will host a week full of special events at the I.M. Pei-designed building,” writes Alex Bentley at Tuesday’s (7/22) CultureMap Dallas. “Running September 6-13, the mostly free activities include performances by the DSO and other ensembles…. The J.J. Pearce High School marching band will start things off on Saturday, September 6, by leading a parade down Flora Street into the Meyerson.… The day will also include family activities…. The Dallas Symphony Pops season will open with three performances of Let’s Dance September 5-7 … led by principal conductor Jeff Tyzik [featuring] tango, waltz and cha-cha dancers.” Also performing will be the Dallas Winds, the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and the Dallas Symphony Chorus with the Lay Family Concert Organ. “The week will end with the 2014 Dallas Symphony Orchestra AT&T Gala featuring renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman. There will be more anniversary events throughout the DSO’s 2014-2015 season, including a repeat of select concerts that were performed during the Meyerson’s inaugural season.”
