“The Hong Kong SAR Government would take every possible measure for nurturing young talent and bolstering the arts sector, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said during the opening ceremony of the 24th edition of the Asian Youth Orchestra Rehearsal Camp on Monday,” according to an unsigned article in Tuesday’s (7/22) Hong Kong Government News website. “Welcoming the attendees, the official extended her congratulations to the 110 young musicians from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam to attend the camp. This year has the largest number of attendees recorded ever in the history of the Asian Youth Orchestra, with every member selected after undergoing a very competitive audition process that involved over 800 candidates.… Talking about the Asian Youth Orchestra, [Lam] said that it has been devoted towards nurturing young musicians from across Asia for the past 24 years and this year’s camp offers a great platform for witnessing another remarkable cultural and social exchange.”
