“The Adrian Symphony Orchestra announced this morning that John Thomas Dodson will be leaving as the orchestra’s music director at the end of the 2014-15 season. He has been conducting the ASO since 2001,” writes Erik Gable in Saturday’s (7/26) Adrian Today (Adrian, Michigan). “The ASO board is assembling a committee to begin the search for the next music director. In the announcement, Dodson said: ‘It has been one of the great joys of my life to serve as the conductor of this wonderful orchestra and to help it continue to make music during some particularly difficult economic times. We’ve worked with incredible soloists, created three multi-year giving societies that help sustain the orchestra, grown audiences, commissioned new music, revamped the education program and, at the end of this season, will have concluded a five-year traversal of all nine Beethoven symphonies in the new, scholarly editions. For such a series of accomplishments to have taken place during a time of recessions and community population loss is a true testament to the commitment of the orchestra’s supporters as they helped shepherd the organization through tough economic times.’ ASO executive director Libby Watson said Dodson ‘brings remarkable artistic leadership and an infectious energy in planning exciting, stimulating artistic projects.’ ”
