The Longy School of Music of Bard College will hold its second annual El Sistema Summer Academy from August 11 to 22, at its campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The two-week program will host 80 students in grades 7-12 who are enrolled in El Sistema-inspired programs. Students will be mentored by Longy faculty, guest faculty, and graduate students, and will participate in other activities such as yoga, singing, dance, and theater games. Students from the American School Foundation of Chiapas, Mexico will be among those attending the academy. The academy will culminate in two free concerts featuring students performing alongside members of the Longy Conservatory Orchestra and Summer Academy; the first concert will take place at Harvard Square on August 21 and the second at Longy’s Edward M. Pickman Concert Hall on August 22. Longy School of Music of Bard College was founded as Longy School of Music in 1915 by oboist Georges Longy. In addition to undergraduate and graduate programs at its Cambridge, Mass., campus, Longy runs a Master of Arts in Teaching program in Los Angeles, in partnership with Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA).
