The Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s summer tour of Europe will begin on August 15 at the Grafenegg Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, with Music Director Peter Oundjian leading  a program of Weber’s Overture to Oberon, Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, and Claude Vivier’s Orion. The tour includes stops at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Hall; the Rheingau Musik Festival in Wiesbaden, Germany; and Finland’s Helsinki Music Centre, and will conclude on August 24 at Harpa Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland. The TSO’s Finland residency, coinciding with the Helsinki Festival, also will include community activities and late-night concerts featuring Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11. Soloists touring with the orchestra—violinist James Ehnes and composer/clarinetist Jörg Widmann—will also perform concerts featuring Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, Widmann’s Elegie for Clarinet and Orchestra, and Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1.
