The Chicago Sinfonietta has selected Roderick Cox and Sameer Patel as the first participants in its Project Inclusion Conducting Fellowship program. Under the program, Cox and Patel will be mentored by Chicago Sinfonietta Music Director Mei-Ann Chen and Chicago Sinfonietta administrative staff. Faculty will also include Cliff Colnot, principal conductor of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and principal conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s contemporary MusicNOW Ensemble; and Henry Fogel, former Chicago Symphony Orchestra CEO and former League of American Orchestras president and CEO. Cox, assistant conductor of the Alabama Symphony and music director of the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra, was the 2013 winner of the Aspen Music Festival’s Robert H. Harth Conducting Prize. Patel recently spent three seasons as an associate conductor of Indiana’s Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and was also one of six conductors who participated in the League of American Orchestras’ 2013 Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview, hosted by Florida’s Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.
