LINC SMELSER has been named conductor of the Rockford (Ill.) Symphony Youth Orchestra. He is music director and conductor of the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra (DeKalb, Ill.) and a faculty member at Northern Illinois University, where he conducts the NIU Youth Sinfonia and Symphonette. Smelser was the Rockford Symphony Orchestra’s principal cellist from 1990 to 1998, and is currently a member of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra in Chicago and a professor of cello at Wheaton College Conservatory of Music. A native of Arizona, he holds a master’s degree in performance and pedagogy from NIU and a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Arizona.
