The Symphony of Southeast Texas, based in Beaumont, has announced details of its 2014-15 classical season under Music Director Chelsea Tipton II. The four-concert season opens on September 20 at the Julie Rogers Theatre with Hérold’s Zampa Overture, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, and the mandolin concerto “From the Blue Ridge” by mandolinist/fiddler Jeff Midkiff, with Midkiff as soloist. Also featured during the season will be Brahms’s Symphony No. 4; Boyce’s Symphony No. 5; Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, with the SOST Chorus; and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf with vaudeville actor Michael Boudewyns. The season also will include a holiday concert and carol singalong in December, and a pops program entitled “SOST Goes to the Movies,” featuring movie music by James Horner, Henry Mancini, and John Williams.
