The Houston Symphony will welcome Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada in his inaugural season with the orchestra with two free events and a gala concert from September 12 to 14. The orchestra’s free opening-night performance at Miller Outdoor Theatre on September 12 will feature music from Colombia, Orozco-Estrada’s home country, and America, including Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, with pianist Gabriela Montero. The concert will be broadcast live by KTRK-TV Channel 13. Salsa dancing lessons will be offered before the concert, and the evening will include fireworks. The orchestra’s September 13 concert and gala at Jones Hall will feature Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Mussorgsky/Ravel’s Pictures at an Exhibition, and Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto, with soloist Alison Balsom. A second free community performance at Jones Hall, “Fiesta Sinfónica con Andrés,” is scheduled for Jones Hall on September 14.
